RIVERFEST 2010 to be Saturday, April 17th
For the tenth year, Wetumpka Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Riverfest on the banks of the beautiful Coosa River which flows lazily under the Bibb Graves Bridge and over the large upright rocks to Crommelin’s Landing and Gold Star Park.
This year, the free to the public, family centered festival will include activities to please everyone. Saturday at 7:00 a.m., the Riverfest 5K Crater Run associated with the Trail of Legends Association will assemble. For information contact Darrin Swanson at
(334) 416-7024.
From toddlers to teens, each can find something to bring a sparkle to his eye! The variety includes “duck” pond and “go fishing” for the very young; face painting; amusing and challenging inflatables; a four-car train ride driven by the conductor around the area will provide entertainment to the children during the day. A six-ring carousel of ponies will also be a part of the thrills. Additional games and rides will round out the numerous challenges for the youngsters. A nominal fee for these activities will be charged by the vendors. The Wetumpka Fire Department will bring their fire engine to provide education and entertainment for the children.
Last year our new endeavor Art in the Park was a tremendous success. Local artists skilled in special techniques will be assisting the children and youth with art creations between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in a specially designated area. You can help make this an even more successful part of Riverfest this year.
It is because of our generous Chamber sponsors that we can offer so much of the festival as a FREE event. Early sponsors for 2010 include: City of Wetumpka; Productive IT; Price Publications, Inc., The Wetumpka Herald; River Bank and Trust; PCI Gaming; Jackson Thornton and Company; Law Firm of Regina B. Edwards, PC; MAX, Your Community Credit Union; Trail of Legends Association, Inc.; Elmore Community Hospital; Sam’s Club; and Information Transport Solutions, Inc.
Parents and the mature are not left out. A wide variety of arts, crafts, and business information booth spaces will be set for browsing for the entire day. Baptist Health will provide free health screenings—Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Glucose—from 10:00 a.m. – 4: 00 p.m. These services are both educational and may identify potential health problems. The LifeSouth Blood Mobile will be on hand to accept donations as well as provide for emergency first aid.
Food is always a must for a day of entertainment; and food there will be in a variety sure to tease the appetite. The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, fried fish plates, barbecue plates, funnel cakes, “old fashion” lemonade, cold drinks, peanuts, pop corn, nachos and much, much more.
State Representative Barry Mask will MC the day’s activities. Stage entertainment begins early and will continue throughout the day. Included are a variety of local group and individual performers who will sing, dance and perform to delight the audience of all ages. Entertainment from the stage will appear interspersed throughout the day and will end with a fireworks extravaganza across the Coosa River.
The Saturday, April 17th event is a no gate admission, 9:00 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., rain or shine, entertainment cornucopia. Bring the family and be prepared for a day filled with fun. Handicap parking is available. General parking is available within easy walking distance of the park. Limited bleacher seating is located near the stage, but it is suggested that you bring a lawn chair or blanket for your convenience.
If you are interested in volunteering or being a food or arts/crafts/information vendor, or just need additional information, please contact the Chamber at
