Elmore County is blessed with a number of health services throughout the area.
Elmore Community Hospital was incorporated in 1959 and has gone through several additions and reorganizations before reaching its current structure and service delivery system. They are located at 500 Hospital Drive, (334) 567-4311.In 1993, the County Commission Districts were expanded to five, and the existing hospital board down-sized to consist of seven members, a structure which it continues to maintain. The hospital has gone through three name changes over its history. At its opening in 1959, it was known as Elmore County Hospital and in January 1990 it was renamed Central Alabama Medical Center and in 1992 the name was changed to and still remains Elmore Community Hospital. A new parking lot was constructed in front of the hospital. It was hoped that the additional space provided by the lot would encourage visitors to utilize the front entrance to the building and thus clear the rear entrance for emergency patients only. In 1993 the hospital expanded its emergency department and added a 1079 square foot waiting room and admissions area, which is used for outpatient surgery and emergency services registration. Elmore Community Hospital serves as the county’s medical control hospital with 24-hour emergency room service. In 1993 also the hospital started a Home Health Agency which offered citizens skilled nursing services in the patient’s home. This Agency now serves not only Elmore County but six additional surrounding counties-- Autauga, Montgomery, Chilton, Macon, Coosa and Tallapoosa.
As with many county hospital facilities, in recent years, Elmore Community Hospital has lost some of its business revenue to the more sophisticated service provision of the metropolitan complexes in Birmingham and Montgomery. Auxiliary kinds of service provision were added through the next several years in an effort to help make the local facility financially viable and expand its service base. In October 1994 the hospital expanded its Radiology Department and added a Computerized Tomography (CT) unit room. Also in 1994 the addition of the Dialysis Center was completed. This service was contracted out to Community Dialysis and is operated today by Physician's Choice Dialysis. Elmore Community Rural Health Clinic was opened in 1994 under the name of Wetumpka Pediatrics and in January 2001 the clinic’s name was changed to Elmore Community Rural Health Clinic and is now providing healthcare for both adults and children. In 1996 the hospital built a helipad on its grounds to provide air transportation in transferring critical patients to larger Birmingham hospitals. The Elmore County Health Care Authority Board entered into a management agreement with Jackson Hospital in Montgomery from 1996 to 2000 and in July of 2000 leased the facility to Ivy Creek of Elmore, LLC. Since July of 2000 the hospital has added new equipment such as the Beckman Coulter Chemistry Analyzer for the Laboratory Department, a Picker IQ scanner CT unit and a State of the Art Performa mammography system and portable c-arm for the Radiology Department. A parking area for the elderly and disabled has also been added. In March 2004, an MRI unit was added, providing state of the art scanning. Ms. Cindy Futral currently serves as CEO. The hospital consists of a Medical Staff of 12 Active physicians, 51 Courtesy physicians, and 6 Consulting physicians. Thus, the facility continues to meet the challenges of healthcare provision to the people of Elmore County. Today the Elmore Community Hospital is a sixty-nine bed acute care facility. The Hospital is located in Wetumpka at 500 Hospital Drive and provides quality medical care to the people of this area. The hospital combines modern medical technology with personal attention to make each patient’s visit as beneficial as possible.

ELMORE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Ground was broken January 22, 1973 on U. S. Highway 231, (334) 567-1172, in Wetumpka for the new Elmore County Health Center, which housed the county health department as well as a clinic.
The center has provided numerous health services throughout the years in family planning, maternity services with a contract doctor, WIC (Women, Infants, Children supplemental feeding), childhood immunizations, child health-EPSDT/well-baby clinic and STD testing.By early 1998, the services and the number of people seeking service in the county had outstripped the capacity of the existing building. The Elmore County Commission reached an agreement with the local health facility to provide enough additional county property on which could be renovated/constructed a new 11,000 square foot facility with approximately 50 client parking spaces. The new Elmore County Health Department was completed in February 1999 through the leadership of long time administrator Bobby Bryan. Under the cooperative agreement, title to the land remains in possession of the County, which provides maintenance and insurance for the location. But the designated county health funds actually constructed the building.Since 1997, a significant Vital Statistics operation is provided in cooperation with the State of Alabama Bureau of Vital Statistics. One can go to our local health department or that of any county in the state and secure a certified copy of any birth, death, marriage, or divorce.
